Types of Bullying
What are the types of bullying?
Types of Bullying
Physical - kicking, punching, pushing, pinching, biting, tripping
Verbal - Unkind words or jokes, name-calling, whispering, threats, mimicking
Emotional - Not letting someone join in, spreading stories, mean looks, hiding things, laughing behind backs, damaging peoples things, turning friends against them, taking or hiding their things, writing or drawing things
Disability – because of physical or mental disabilities
Cyber bullying – using internet, MSN, mobile phones, Bebo, facebook to say mean things
Racist – unkind words or actions because of someone’s colour, culture, origin, nationality
Sexual – touching that is not wanted, saying unkind things about who people like, because of being a girl or boy
Homophobia - is when someone is treated unkindly because people think that they are or might be gay (what does this mean?). This can happen when people think that a boy is ‘girly’ or a girl is ‘boyish’. Some children and teenagers use the word ‘gay’ to mean things that are rubbish or to call people when they are upset with them. For example ‘those trainers are so gay’ or ‘you’re a stupid gayboy’. Using the word gay like this isn’t allowed in schools because it makes people who are gay feel bad about who they are.
